So, back to reality today; all was fairly quiet on the patch, with a Redshank on Ferry Lane Lake and a Hobby over Meering. Not many young birds around yet other than those belonging to the Greylag Geese. This afternoon it was good butterflying weather, so inevitably I went out in search of Grizzled Skippers, parking at Kilvington Lakes and walking north along the disused railway line. I was surprised not to find any initially, despite the weather and lots of suitable habitat. However, it was very pleasing to find one in a new location a bit further north - but just the one; is their flight season over already?

I saw several other butterfly species, including a pristine Brown Argus and two Small Heaths.
